In What Book is it Written?

Who has written the history of the poor?

Those ill fed, ill mannered destitute hoards.

What wisdom lies abandonded in their poverty?

Did love, laughter and joy reside in the misery?

Who knows the knowledge of the oppressed?

Was it understood by its prisoners?

Perhaps they spoke the language of the unspeakable.

Perhaps in their silence and unwitting patience

Is where the Kingdom of Heaven really lays.

Perhaps the ragged broken mob born into ruin

Inherits the lavish constructions their enslavement built.

Who has written the history of the poor?
