A Poem by Kat Loch

They say not to invest happiness in other people.

Yet, I can’t help letting you take it from me with your gentle fingers and your wide smile.

I let you draw it from my lips with cigarette stained breath.

I see it in your strong, confident arms as they wrap around me,

enclosing me in your warmth.

Your eyes set afire when the sun touches them and they burn my soul with every blink.

Your heart flutters and pounds and screams when I lay on your chest.

Your legs twitch when I caress your bare skin.

Your voice when you call me yours.

Your laugh.

The curves in your stomach.

The freckles on your shoulders.

These things draw the happiness, the warmth, the smiles from me

and you yet do not know.

They say not to invest your happiness in other people, but they do not know you.
