Preface.A Chapter by Kat Loch
It
started the day I woke up with blood running down my face and a broken memory.
I had woken up at three thirty four in the morning, two hours before I actually
had to wake up to get ready for school. I went to turn over onto my side, after
seeing the blurry clock across the room, but I received a face full of freezing
cold liquid. Jumping back and waking up my boxer that slept on the end of my
bed, I lunged for my lighter that was on my bed side table. I clicked it and
held it over my pillow, the crimson liquid glistening in the light. My heart
skipped beats like a stretched out game of hopscotch. My dog, Lark, jumped off
my bed and tore across the carpet to the window, the white curtains dancing
with the breeze. A sick feeling dropping into my stomach, a nuclear bomb that
exploded upon impact, as I tip toed over to the window. Pulling back the
curtains, I gazed down at the open window, lacking a screen, with drops of
blood decorating the edges of the sill.
