Letter to my younger self

Letter to my younger self

A Poem by David Burke

Dear David,
Stop.
Stop pushing people away.
Stop trying to hurt people so they can feel
the way you do.
Stop being ok with being numb.
Realize your heart is bigger than it seems.
See the potential everyone else sees in you,
because believe me you will.
Listen to those who are trying to help you,
they're not just trying to tell you what to do.

Trust God, He knows what he's doing.

Know that it does get better.

Know that you'll learn to love again.

Know that you will meet a group of people that will
become some of the most important people in your life.
They will change you, and mold you for the better.
They will teach you to ride your potential to the place
where the stars and the sky touch, and the wind sings
songs only your heart can hear.
Learn the value of seeing someone happy, and see the
smile and light it brings you.
Learn that hugs have magic powers, and are the perfect
way to tell someone "I trust you."
Know that you still have a tough road ahead, but you
know you can handle it because you have hope and faith.
Know that those walls you hide behind will no longer be of
use to you.
See the good in everyone.
Trust your instincts.
Be careful when you start drinking, because contrary to
your belief you can't control it.
Know that you have people who are more than willing to
help you through these things, and push you to be better.
You will lose a lot of people who are close to you.
You will experience pain, close calls, and sadness.
You will come out of all of this stronger than you went in.
You will learn the bond that transforms friends into family.
You will grow into a wonderful man, that many people
seem to hold close.
You will learn so much.
There is light at the end of that tunnel, and you will take
others with you in search of it.
Keep running, and don't look back.
Life is a marathon, and you're not finished yet.
I love you.

You have some pretty strong affirmations here, David. Perhaps, we can take note of this and apply it to our own lives...a voice from our past! Good to see you're back!
