Wounded Soldier

Wounded Soldier

A Poem by David Burke
"

how I've felt my entire life

"

As I sit here in the dark

Trying to mend my broken heart

I wonder what had made this start

The hell that tore my life apart

Maybe this was always my fate

To be born inside a house of hate

Forced to stay alive, and wait

To dwell within a hopeless fire

Waiting for my life to expire

My one, and only true desire

Because this life has made me tired

But still, I don't think this is it

There's a part of me that just won't quit

It's the part that goes that extra mile

To will my mouth to fake a smile

But I still wish that I was dead

So all my thoughts would go to bed

Oh, how death appeals to me

The chance to rest eternally

There's just no feeling that can mask it

The thought of being in a casket

I don't care when, I don't care how

Death just sounds so good right now

All of it just sounds so soothing

But I know I must keep moving

Because some day, I'll hurt no more

That's why I must fight this war

I'll understand, when I get older

But for now I'll fight on, a wounded soldier

My Fellow Comrade, Dear "Soldier Of The Pen" You are not alone and after reading some of your work and have had the Pleasure of watching you out on the Battlefield with your Pen, Bandaging wounded hearts and minds.
I am seeing a bigger picture of a project I am working on. I now see something even bigger.
please read my "Soldier of the pen" on one of my pages... I have a project I'm working on and You my Comrade are showing me that I am to gather other comrades to do this project it wasn't meant for me to do alone.
I'll explain more later.
I'm going back to bed and let the thoughts of what I see come in full view.
((Hugs)) fellow Comrade and know you fight not alone.

This is awesome! Super Awesome! I'm more of a story person than a poet but hey! That doesn't mean I can't read it and appreciate it. (If you don't believe me about the poetry thing, just read some of mine. They are not very good.) I'm into WWII stuff, and I totally think this applies! This could be a person in Napoleon Bonaparte's army, Attilla the Hun's, U.S. Army today, Revolutionary war, ... you name it. I love how applicable it is. You could even put it out of the context of guns and swords. You could say it's the war we fight every day. The war that shows our true selves. Because some wounded soldiers give up the fight against evil, and let it take them, but others, ... others stay standing for as long as their tired feet can hold them! Others keep on going even when they are at the bottom of a hopeless mountain that they must climb. You captured that perfectly. And you chose a character that chose to climb. A character that will obviously never give up. You have a truly talented fashion of writing, don't ever stop, and don't ever let anyone tell you otherwise. Be like you're soldier. Keep on fighting. Keep on going. And don't ever tell yourself that you're bad. Because that tears you down faster than anything else ever will! ....
Phew. I didn't think I would be writing that much, and just in case you couldn't tell before, I'll say it a little more plainly now. THAT WAS AWESOME!!! Great job, and really do keep up the good work. If you ever write something and no one will review it, I'll gladly take the challenge. ... Although, it's a little bit more of an indulgence than a challenge, ... oh well. Really, you're a much better poet than me, ... uh, ... keep up the good work! (sorry, I'm probably boring you! This is a really long and repetitive review! But I mean what I said! I really do! You are fantastic, and I can't wait to read some more of your works!) Thanks so much for sharing this! :) ;) See ya 'round (so to speak)

Your welcome!
We all can't be perfect, we all must be wounded at some point in my life. And I understand how this feeling is, how one would find death so appealing so often. This piece really hits home for me and I couldn't relate more. It nearly brought tears to my eyes, it brought back memories of the past. Thank you!

You took the words right from my hand, so to speak. You really know how to write stuff that's easy to relate to. Do not give up. Your writing really speaks in volumizing measures. If you left it would hit the world hard.

I agree lol
Utter lose of hope is harsh indeed. I can relate to the torrid of emotions in this poem. Sometimes, as wounded soldiers, we must hold on to that silver of hope burning at the end of a darkened hallway. I wish you well. May you find your way to that torch in your life!

Great Write!

So many can relate to this feeling as can I. Giving up just seems so easy to do . But yet we still fight and keep on going . I can see where you're coming for. Yet again another great poem!

Again thanks! lol
I know that feeling of despair, the desire for nothing more than a quiet rest in the utter black of oblivion. Have heart, that feeling passes. Besides, there are some pretty terrible ways to die, such as being eaten alive or melted by acid.

This is a pretty good piece though, full of emotion and a certain numbness. I can honestly say, with great sadness, that there are too many people to count that are feeling exactly this, at this exact moment, somewhere in the world.

Fight on, Soldier. It will pass.
