For DerekA Poem by ashley.centersWhen the news isn’t good and the doctor’s face turns somber the answer is simple like determination to live is strong for the man to young to die. Cucumbers, eggplant, pumpkin grow vibrant in the garden green from springtime showers. Change is easy and love is sweet like the first summer rain when staring cancer in the face. He’s smart enough to know the odds aren't in his favor. Young enough to try anything to increase the chances of another day in the fields of gold. He’s not ready to fly with the angels. Sunshine and smiles surround him as friends do what they know best: love him. Prayers and pleas to the man above asking Him to have mercy on the man they call brother. It won’t be long now before rain pours from the heavens and storm clouds cumulate as if there’s no tomorrow. Goodbye isn’t easy. Grief strikes quick and bodies are no longer strong enough when he flies away home with the angels. © 2011 ashley.centers |
