Afro RockA Poem by BJ "Bunneh3000" Browna lost art that I wish could return... no more Black guitar heroes. Where'd they all go?that sweet feedback that distorts Hendrix strings is now lost in a turntable haze back in the day, rock and blues ruled soul and funk mixed within and we schooled those guitar heroes to follow, yet now that place is hollow brothas and sistas no longer crave that axe grind that WE founded and I’m amazed cause the reigns afro rock now lay in such disarray Prince seems to play for dolo and Kravitz seems to be Jimi’s shadow or should I turn to Slash for my riff wrath
Afro strings invisible to me even funk is an obsolete thing a sign o’ the simplified times afro strings cut by party rhymes note bending now reserved for auto tunes that hit Billboard picked by the lotto Young emcees that don’t know Watson Wah Wah sounds legendary by the ton cause we say we’ve evolved the sound yet of the elements, we’ve lost almost every one cause the players still play, yet none can shine ‘cause most would rather babble about drugs than return afro rock to the field of divine price of an axe coulda forced the art to lost easier to join a cypher than learn a chord still I long for that Black Snake Moan that heart wrenching electric tone to speak to the aches of that place that our people used to evolve and breathe who now to lead? Strat in hand but few heroes to feed my pedal board ambition… © 2010 BJ "Bunneh3000" BrownReviews
