Sweet Tea

Sweet Tea

A Poem by BJ "Bunneh3000" Brown
"

lil bit of southern nostalgia

"

The glass sings as the ice rings about
inside. Sun shining through the golden brown.
Such a sound to marry the soothing sweet.
Cooling down the blazing summer’s day
after a hard day of work and play.

Hypnotized by the clink I stare off
far away gaze as if I’m still amazed
by the flavor savor that the glass caters
country like PO’taters a sip gets a grin
as I think back to mom’s cold brew a’gin

More than Coke or Kool Aid I crave
a big pitcher an’ a whole mess-a
hush puppies and BBQ po’k
otha white meat shredded and southern accented
marinated and slow pit roasted

and as I dream of tearin through a plate
with cole slaw and hot sauce
the Mac N Cheese breaded and peppered
maybe black eyed peas and cabbage shredded
and a glass a tea or the fantasy is lost

But these northern reaches don’t know
how all them flavors are supposed to go
I drank it slow as my weekend stroll
wit pig pickin’ dreams with every bit o lemon
cause a glass o sweet tea is a lil’ slice o heaven
