Never Died

Never Died

A Poem by BJ "Bunneh3000" Brown
"

This one was inspired by Jon Sanders' poem "A House In Flames". Just a different take on the metaphor that he used where the house that burned down was his heart.

"

My friend watched his house burn down
the ashes of his past were so profound
and as he sighed and thanked God
he explained how those crumpled walls trapped
how those fire-licked barriers tapped
all the fire from his life’s furnace
he had wondered why joy was always what he’d chase
from day to day
a life devoid of adultplay
so this devastation brought welcome creation
this revelation the cause for his newfound place
of wonder
no longer underneath bricks of expectation he parted ways
with all the burdens that now went up in a flash
of anger
more like frustration of self
cause his wealth was too invested in this rough-shod house
rather than the truth of all outside his control
cause those truths enriched the core of his soul

Yet as the wind carried away the ash that day
his mood changed as about the ash did lay
a statue of the purest beauty I’d ever seen
as if this little trinket stood between
all his dreams that he’d forged in light of this him of NEW
it made him cringe as if juice from tobacco chew
so I reached down and picked it up
brushed it off and asked, “What’s up?”
the statue was the focus of
his lust and love and all that was
of the romance he’d known and the pain it caused
he cradled the trinked and then replied
“I wish it had but this love never died…”
