True Love Gone

True Love Gone

A Poem by Bumble
"

"I love the life you've always made so sweet for me and I'd regret it if I had to die."

"
Last Night
Him: They are shipping us out tomorrow. I have to go.
Me: But there is a chance you won't return to me!
Him: I am doing this for your safety. It's late and we both need sleep, I'll see you tomorrow. Goodnight sweetheart, I love you.
Me: *weeps* I love you too. Goodnight, love.

Today
I see you walking towards me
And my body shuts down.
Arms are heavy,
Legs are weak.

I know that you are needed,
And I know that it's for me.
But I feel like this is the last time,
That I will see your loving face.

You're smiling, but your eyes are conservative.
And all this while I am trying to hide the tears
I want to be strong for you
Not a weak emotional wreck.

Your arms wrap around me,
And they feel like iron beams.
And with your rough hands holding me to you,
I feel safer with you here, than you over there.

I have never heard or seen you cry,
But today I guess you can't hold back.
I look into your eyes,
And they are the prettiest green I have ever seen.

I study your face,
And implant the image in my head.
I tell you I will see you again
Hoping that what I say is true.

You kiss me gently,
Yet passionately sweet.
A man starts to speak,
And we realize it's time for you to  go.

My heart is racing as I watch you,
I feel as if I am watching my better half go.
I am waving like a craze woman,
But that is why you love me.

The plane takes off and everyone watches it go,
Then one by one starts leaving,
And I decide that I should too.
I hope that you stay safe, and think of me.

One Year Later
One year has passed,
And the vacancy has grown.
Even with all the letters,
You still are not here.

I go and read on the porch swing,
Something I find somewhat takes my mind off the emptiness.
It's one of your favorites, The Count of Monte Cristo
You always pushed for me to read it.

I told you in my last letter to you,
You said to highlight
"I love the life you've always made so sweet for me and I'd regret it if I had to die."
I trace these words with my fingers.

A slamming door wakes me
From my slumber of happiness.
There are two men walking towards me,
And for a moment I think it is you.

My heart shatters,
I knew this moment too well.
"I am sorry for your loss." They say.
This moment is what I have feared from the beginning.

Forever gone is my better half, the love of my life.
I can never see your loving face.
Kiss those sweet lips.
I could never have asked for a better man.

I am glad it spoke to you, and thank you. :)
You captured all of the moments leading up to the heart breaking news. How sad it is that so many have received this news. Excellent writing!

:( I didn't lose anyone. It was for a contest. I am so sorry! But thank you!
I am so sorry for your loss. I too have lost someone and can deeply relate to this piece. It is powerful and moving. You captured the anticipation of the loss so gracefully and delicately. I think you always know before you know, even if the person isn't in battle. I certainly know that I did. Great job.

This is so powerful. While reading it, I almost expected the ending, but hoped it wouldn't come. When I read it, I felt my heart drop. This is a beautiful piece, great job. :)
