Being a Lesbian in a Republican Town

Being a Lesbian in a Republican Town

A Poem by Bryn_Blossom
"

Trigger Warning: homophobia, slurs

"

I hold hands with her as we walk

We get stares everywhere we go

And we always hear them talk

They definitely know

I got called a dyke today

And she was punched yesterday

It’s always on a school day

We came out as gay

And everyone stared

We were told to pray

All because they were scared

You are much bravery then I could ever be. My older brother who is gay was disowned by my father, and cast out into the streets. I never truly comprehended the struggles he endured because I was so young when he came out to my parents. Only later in life did I come to see that he has a lion's heart. And it is that beautiful quality you share with him. Thank you for your poem, and speaking your truth.
