Nightmare

Nightmare

A Poem by Brylee S. Hoffman
"

This is also a school assignment. I revised it a little bit though.

"
She goes to bed
Unaware
Unknowing of what is going to happen.
And drifts off
Into a quiet
peaceful sleep

The serenity of her dream
is abruptly interrupted
Everything goes black
Her heart is racing
she is running
Panic stricken across her face

All she knows is if she stops,
Unknown consequences
will be reaped upon her
Her destination is unknown, even to her
But she can't go back
Not ever

Her legs are burning
Her lungs are ready to explode
She forces them on
But they scream in protest
She can't take it anymore
and she stops, tired of running

She knows it has gained on her
She looks back
Suddenly brave
Ready to take on her chaser
But she sees nothing
For she was running from herself the whole time
