Old Hunter's Dream

Old Hunter's Dream

A Poem by Bryad Polis Valentino
"

A slice of Beast Hunter poetry. Tells of a new hunter's experiences on his first hunt.

"
The moon vanishes,

Shrinking each night,

The stars scatter, hide,

The dark sky dies,

Still, I'm alive.

As it all disappears,

Wonder, if I'm awake,

Blood gushing everywhere,

My clothes soaked,

Tasting bitter memories,

The last few nights,

Where my fear has died.

Joining the hunt,

Initiated by a madman,

Given a contract,

Signing a soul away,

Now long forgotten,

A nightmare it has been.

Tools my trick,

Arcane knowledge,

Vile bloodtinge,

Saws and guns,

Inscribed runes,

Burnt into my mind.

Desire only prosperity,

My heart shallow,

My pulse quickening,

The hunt begins,

Again and again.

One last echo,

Chosen from below,

To be a pawn,

Moon presence,

All in a dream,

One of nightmares.

Liars, fires, mires,

Twisted vision,

Waking death,

Heartless breaths.

Dancing beasts,

Your life, I beseech.

To me I see life and death juxtaposed quite nicely. I can imagine bright crimson blood against a black night backdrop. The imagery of night is quite nice. It almost seems like a story of a dying hunter, but it's not 100% clear. Maybe he's on his way to the happy hunting grounds? lol, i'm not sure.

I liked that part. I see that as life. A rapidly beating heart, ready to hunt and kill to survive. I'm not sure if that's what it means in the context of the poem but alone I interpret it that way.
