Prologue - The Gauntlet

Prologue - The Gauntlet

A Story by Brutis140

The Moon shone through the forest. The fat green creature ran as fast as his legs would carry him, spreading leaves and cracking sticks that echoed through the trees.
"Grundel must get mitten to Master, Master pleased with Grundel." The creature tripped as he was talking to himself not noticing the wire strung between two trees. Grundel stood and reached for the glove.
"Grundel so fat, Grundel clumsy, Grundel careful with mitten." The creature turned with the gauntlet.
"Goblin!" A voice shouted from the shadows. Grundel screeched and began to turn as a dagger struck him in the back causing the gauntlet to be sent flying to wards the man.
"Live in the forest Marcus, what a bloody good idea, Nothing will disturb you there. We should never have taught these filthy creatures to talk." The man spoke to himself sarcastically. He looked at the gauntlet curiously. It was like nothing he had ever seen before. He had heard of the stories, they told of a lost technology that would allow him to live in the stars, A floating castle crafted with metal.
"What did you want with this?" Marcus asked the corpse beside him before putting on the glove. As he did this it began to light up, glowing a light blue flickering in and out illuminating the area. Marcus was in shock, the gauntlet hissed and tightened around his hand and forearm. He fell backwards as the glove began to speak.
"Accessing history, loading document 'The fall of earth'." Marcus pulled off the gauntlet and stumbled backwards against a tree as the glove began to speak to him again.
"In the year 2026 the Divine Ones came to earth saving two million from the plague that swept over the planet. They took the survivors to 12 cities they had created in the stars and explained that they had created humanity and that they were the 'gods' that were worshiped. Humans were then given access to the technology and the teachings of the Divine Ones." The light faded as did the voice. Marcus moved to pick up the gauntlet again, as he did it lit up.
"Loading final document, Captains log, The year is 2098. We have crashed on earth-like planet 325. The entire space station has fallen and cannot be repaired. There are 952 survivors and to many deaths to mention. I only hope that we are rescued soon. I have sent a distress signal. We will be taking refuge in a castle ruin to the north of the crash site. All radio signals are down and most of our technology is affected by the abyss. Note due to the hi magnetism levels of the planet, the gauntlet can easily manipulate the ground around it and upon learning this I have successfully kept us safe from the creatures dwelling here." Marcus turned with the gauntlet in his hands.
"So this is the kings treasured gauntlet?" He paused and spoke again. "Now I know why it was so important to the goblin." Marcus stepped inside dragging the dead goblin behind him.
"That question will have to wait until morning."

The fat little goblin crept into the room, slowly approaching the man clad in dark armour.
"You had better have a good excuse for coming in here." The man spoke angrily
"Stervie wishes to tell master Grundel died." the goblin whimpered.
"That doesn't surprise me, however that gauntlet is to important to risk losing." The man spoke, stepping down from his platform.
"Stervie will bring mitten to the master." spoke the goblin.
"You will do no such thing!" The man shouted at his slave. "I must resort to, more intelligent means."

Marcus rose from his bed, and tripped over the goblin corpse.
"Oh yea, I still have to deal with you." He bent to pick up the creature. It was about the size of a watermelon.
"Your a bit bigger than normal too, probably why they sent you to steal this." Marcus brought the creature outside and began to bury it.
"Pity I killed you, I'm sure you had some valuable information."
"Where's the human!?" Marcus turned to see two armoured creatures standing before him.
"Figures, first a goblin now a couple Banefeys." Marcus said as he turned to inspect them further. What god creates such a sorry excuse for a creature, the Banefey a poisonous insect like creature, Marcus thought to himself.
"Silence human you are lucky we let you dwell on our world!" The Banefeys snapped
"According to your ancestors, your lucky you live on this world." Marcus spoke mockingly
"We've had enough, where is the gauntlet!?" The two Banefeys jumped towards him, Marcus countered one attack with his shovel, knocking one of the Banefyes unconscious.
"You'll pay for that human!" shouted the other creature as it swung a sword towards him.
Marcus countered by raising his arm, the blade bounced off the gauntlet and the creature stumbled backwards.
"The Gauntlet!" it gasped.
"Yes the gauntlet, now lets see what this thing can do." Marcus raised the gauntlet and the earth trembled under their feet, two large chunks of earth hovered on each side of the creature.
"What are you doing human?" the Banefey asked curiously.
"Your trespassing." Marcus closed his fist and the chunks of earth came together, crushing the creature. Its acidic blood oozing from between the cracks. Marcus released his hold on the earth and it returned filling the hole it created.
"Now, time to deal with you." Marcus moved towards the unconscious Banefey and dragged it inside.
