In My Room

In My Room

A Poem by Aron Smith

The erratic static
of my neon nightlight,
keeps me buzzing
like an insect all night.
I sit here trembling
in the alien glow,
while my mind is filled
with burning snow.

I drink the ether,
and eat the ozone.
There's no-one else here,
but I'm never alone.
Lying on the floor,
skinny and naked;
Like a frog waiting
to be dissected.

The creatures are scratching,
inside the walls;
looking for a way out,
before they fall.
The dripping tap
beats my skull like a drum.
The crack in my window,
chills me 'till I'm numb.

The world outside,
ceases to exist.
My room is left drifting,
through the nothingness.
I hear a crackle,
and the light dissolves.
Darkness fills the room,
and swallows me whole.
