Searching

Another coffee cup by my ash tray,
maybe today's gonna be the day.
I watch the glow of my cigarette
looking for the life that I haven't found yet.
Try and find my way through the hustle and bustle
spend each day collecting pieces of the puzzle.
No picture on the box, to act a my guide,
keep fighting the straps that keep me on this ride.
All the spokesmen for my generation
somehow seem to have neglected to mention,
the answers to the questions that tax my mind
it's like they're talking sign language to the blind.
If I want it done right, gotta do it myself
to preserve the state of my mental health.
So I dedicate all senses five
to find the reasons for being alive.

I take a walk in the pouring rain,
wash clean my shell, and cleanse my brain.
While all the people rush for shelter
my mind is spinning like a helter skelter.
Everyone's too busy drinking and screwing
to stop and think about what we're doing,
and where we're going, and what's the point,
"Forget that, smoke another joint!"
Forget you, that just slows me down
and if I stop kicking, I'll surely drown.
While we're all sinking, the band plays on,
but no-one hears the words to the song.
The singer's screaming, he's trying to warn us,
the audience nods, and waits for the chorus.
So kill the music, hit the lights,
we gotta find the day, get outta this night.

Peer in every window, knock on every door,
ask every street prophet and drunken bore.
To try and find some small solution
in a world of pestilence, pain and pollution.
A place where in you're different, you're branded a freak,
if you're not a thug and bully, you're pathetic and weak.
Where all the villains thrive, while heroes die,
I wander the streets, screaming out "WHY?".
Why is this the way that it has to be,
and doesn't anybody care but me?
Stop sleeping! It WON'T be better in the morning!
The world doesn't change with a new day dawning.
There's no quick fix for evolution,
it comes from work, thought, and revolution.
I've had all I can stand, and I can't stand no more,
and I still haven't found what I'm looking for.
