Stormy Thoughts

Stormy Thoughts

A Poem by Don Shaw
"

Watching a thunder storm from a window can invoke many thoughts.

"
           Stormy Thoughts

A barrage of thunder came from the sky.
Black clouds forming, and rolling by.

lighting ablaze, the thunder growled in.
                              I gazed from the window,
                              pane against chin.

The wind grew stronger, trees took flight.
we were in store, for a rough bumpy night.

The rain came down, hard and fast.
Asking myself . How long will this last?

A thought came to me, as i watched the show.
What did the Indians do, long ago ?

Nestled in Tepee , flap down tight.
What did they do , on rough bumpy nights ?

Did they sing to the heavens, to muffle the noise?
Did they cuddle in close , to protect their girls and boys ?

BOOM !!! went the thunder, brought me right back.
Lighting bolts down, with a flash and a crack!

As the rain sheeted the window,
I was trapped in the glare,
Hypnotized by water, stuck in a stare.

Wagon train, out on the trail.
Storms rolled in, dispensing large hail.

Horses running, in a life saving flight.
Pots and pans crashing, were sounds in the night.

HAW! HAW! with a slap of the reins.
Hat was a fortress , from the hail stone pains.

BOOM!!! BOOM!!! i arose from my slumber.
Gratefully in a house, made of sturdy lumber.

I really like how you imagine all of this while thinking about the storm and how it weaves in and out of your thoughts :) great write and the flow was perfect! This was so much fun to read. Thanks for posting! For the record I sleep the best during storms like that, for some reason it's really soothing.

A delightful journey through time, going back and forth with your thoughts. The imagery was simple and brilliant. I love storms. When I was a kid, I used to take a huge umbrella and go to the terrace, and watch the lightining patterns. I miss that thrill.

Well written! :D

Such fantastic imagery in this one. I also love the American Indian element as well. The poem flowed like mercury and the placement of most of the words were very good. A joy to read and I rated this very high.
