Cain and Abel

Cain and Abel

A Poem by Brother Jacob

And he said, What hast thou done? the voice of thy brother's blood crieth unto me from the ground. - Genesis 4:10

Cain was a gardener who often would mock, while I was a keeper of the flock. Cain was always jealous of me. A goody-two-shoes is what he did see. I was obedient to the Lord; a thank you from God was my reward. My offering to the Lord did find favor; my offering was a sweet savor. Cain's offering was not respected; many things Cain neglected.

Cain's jealousy turned to fierce anger; then, my life was put in danger. One day we went for a walk together, though it was sunny there was bad weather. Cain rose up, and he slew me. Then I became nothing but blood and debris. My blood cried out from the ground; it broke God's heart and made Him frown. Cain was punished, and it's still true that there are consequences for the wrong we do.
