A Missing Part

A Missing Part

A Poem by Brooke
"

Ever just feel like a piece of you is missing?

"
There's a missing part of me
Have you seen it, Sir?
There's a missing part of me
My memory's a blur.
There's a missing part of me
Did you see which way it fled?
There's a missing part of me
It's not under my bed.
There's a missing part of me
It leaves me feeling dull.
There's a missing part of me
Without it I'm not full.
There's a missing part of me
Have you seen it, Miss?
There's a missing part of me
I don't know what it is.

With the exception of the metre on "under" ("beneath" makes it flow smoother), and the rhyme between "dull" and "full" (only since the other rhymes are full rhymes, so this comes off as a clear cheat. It works, don't get me wrong, it just comes off as sounding off, so it throws readers off guard), this is absolutely fantastic. It's like a children's poem of sorts. I especially enjoyed the echo you made at the beginning and end with Sir and Miss. Very clever. Well done!

I think this is an interesting post-modern statement. We are all missing something, the psyche is never truly at ease. One person may drink, one may eat to excess and lay in regret after they see themselves in the mirror. Overall, what is missing in us? This poem tries desperately to find the answer, but is there a conclusive one? I encourage you to keep exploring Brooke.
