Choking On The Truth

Choking On The Truth

A Poem by Brooke
"

Things are how they are in this cruel world. Keep pushing through, my friends.

"
A world unforgiving,
Children that starve.
An old man shivering,
A teen's arm carved.

A father not there,
No way to contact.
Things are not fair,
Get used to that fact.

You can try your best,
But fail all the way through.
You can move out west,
But your demons find you.

One thing is for sure,
That no one wins.
So remain as you were,
And continue to sin.

Do what you please,
We're all just the same.
Happiness is a tease,
You've no one to blame.

But we all keep swimming,
We just can't resist.
Even though there's no winning,
We've more time to exist.

I guess what I'm saying
Is life is a joke.
So breathe above water,
Or continue to choke.

You can move out west,
But your demons find you.

I like that cuz it reminds me of an author who said he moved out west to "start" over, that traditionally moving out west meant a new hope to many americans (from England, to Ny, to frontier, to CA), but he reflected, what happens then? What if you're still miserable just staring into the Pacific?

I also like the imagery of the teen's arm carved.

That seems like an Millennial trend, like pokemon

Thank you as always !!
Oh my, I loved this! "Happiness is a tease" My favorite line, I seriously loved the flow of it all, so elegantly written, so beautifully expressed! Nicely done.
