The Empty House

The Empty House

A Poem by Bronwyn
"

Seeing an unused house in a community where many people can't find a place to live is a very frustrating thing indeed.

"

It stands across the road

Silent, unused

It’s owner far away

Living a whole other life

I struggle to keep

My shelter, my roof

And feel the decadence

Of the empty rooms over there

Who needs an empty house?

What reason, what for?

When so many wrestle

To make each pay suffice

Does the owner even know?

Ever think, ever care?

About how such an asset

Could ease a needy plight

Is having all that matters?

Future profit, future gain

In the meantime many battle

To stay between their walls

It stands across the road

A shelter, a roof

Such potential to be a haven

Yet still it stands unfilled
