Too Young to be Scared..

Too Young to be Scared..

A Poem by BeatricePortinari.
"

Another poem about a friend of mine whom I thought was fine. But she relapsed, snorting oxy.. Stay above the influence, kids<3.

"

I used to have this friend, see.

She was beautiful like the sun,

Her words were jewels

Writing her story across the reaches

Of this sky.

I asked her once,’ Are you okay?’

Her answer, my lovelies, was to laugh.

Those ghosts in that closet of hers…

They were dark like the night.

Biting at her ears and breaking her dreams.

But, she whispered on a dark night

They were still behind that heavy door.

Then some things changed

And you started telling me lies

Now, the difference my love, is that

They were written in your eyes.

You could tell they were beating harder.

And we could tell you were slipping up,

But, my sweet, you didn’t ask for help, did you now?

You just let them walk all over you

And the man who raised you died from your poison

And we thought, baby girl, that maybe it would stop.

But no.

Because now, now, now.

Now there’s some white powder on your fingertips,

A trail leading to blood under your nose…

And no, I’m not angry,

I’ve never been.

I just can’t help but wonder….

Were you playing us, should I feel like I might have known?

Or, you wicked, lovely girl.

Were those things you smoked a little too strong

Not to leave a lingering affect?

Are you just a little too young to fight the battles

You kicked into place years ago?

Or, angel, does that twisted light in your eyes

Not want to leave?

The girl who we all loved,
is now gone like the rest.
With stains from all the snorting.
And not a heart beat like the rest.

From the beautiful grave she lays herself to grow.
No, my darling, we never could have known.
She was a sinner twice born over,
she was meant for secrets to hold.

Her wicked mind, and spirt,
played us pure ones to the bone.
But somehow we still stay and stutter.
"Was she meant to be this way"
With her heart grown out of flowers.
Sweet words and whispers, now gone astray.

She will never understand,
how what we say is true.
For it was not just I who loved her.
It was you, and you, and you.

She will push away the feelings that she knows are truly there.
For something much more numbing.
A beer, a drink, but never a hand.

And yet, we'll be around.
When she realizes like the rest.
That the truest of us all,
should be prized as the ones with love.
So now that I am leaving,
I ask you now to wait for her heart so true.
To be there for her while she falls in love.
And to be there when she finally realizes,
that all I said was true.

Man.
This is very good; the poems that capture life in its reality, not the ones that create a situation that is merely imagined, are, in my opinion, the best.
The way you wrote this gives it an almost calm, objective feel..the hurt, the compassion, is there, but it isn't delirious with emotion.
"Biting at her ears and breaking her dreams." That line in particular captured my attention.
You are quite the writer :)
