You and Me

You and Me

A Poem by BeatricePortinari.
"

This is pretty awful, I just felt the need to publish my come back from writer's block.

"

At first it’s easy

Falling in love happens to be like that

A soft whisper and my heart

So easily flies away

It perches on your calloused hands

And we smile

It was simple

Because anyone can say something

Beautiful

Or they can sing a sad song

Their lips will curve off their teeth

In a smug grin as you stumble

Over your porcelain words

That’s when you fall in love

Then as slowly as time

You no longer rest your head

On my shoulders,

You let your messy hair

Fall across my stomach

You kiss my ribs

And we’re going

Going just a little bit deeper

Yes, dear, I believe

I might just belong to you now.

So let’s raise our glasses

To those nights when I’ll come home

I’ll be screaming at you

For things you never thought of doing

Because someone else did.

Those were the nights I knew

With steel conviction

That you kept a padlock around my heart

Chaining it to your wrist

Because all you would do

Was make a cup of tea.

You’d throw a blanket on the couch

Pull out my old copy of The Crucible

And make me feel like less of

A failure.

And soon enough you’ll hold my scarred hand

And we’ll live it up to drink it down

Life will be about vibing and kicking back

Because once you know that you’ll be caught

When you fall down

You’ll start taking those leaps of faith

You always read those books about.

I think sometimes people settle, compromise and fall in love to make life more easy, and somehow you've captured that sentiment, or at least that's how I see your poem.

Sometimes people escape into their family, from reality. I'm sure they would argue their family is the only reality that truly matters, which sounds sorta small.
