![]() She Ran Away to Find Something.A Poem by BeatricePortinari.![]() By the way, this is not a personal experience. Just came to me. I have wonderful parents!![]() She had soft skin He had hard fists. That was all she remembered From growing up at home. He was a roaring drunk She read books and locked her door But, those nights, when worlds Blended together Well, Daddy mistook her bed For her Mother’s. And yeah, she felt pain She felt pain. She covered up the bruises Honey, she covered them up with lies. It was a little town full to the brim With smaller people To something better. She always heard of something better. Oh, there were so many things better… So, baby, she turned eighteen And she stole his car Drove halfway to nowhere before She finally cried. She fell to the dirt And, darling, oh, darling it hurt. She made it to the City And started singing songs for money She had that voice that whispered Love and honey. Oh, but sweetheart, there were still those nights. Where she woke up all covered in sweat Because she thought he was Beating on her door… She would throw it open Hate in her eyes And her fingers would, touch the air To make sure And baby she would lean against The peeling wallpaper and sigh. She was alone again But, not to worry, she was good At Being alone. It was about a year later She stepped out of the car And into the airport, Hmm. She bought a one way ticket To the city of lights. She sold coffee on the bank of The Seine She fell in love with a foreign boy Mmm, he was sweet like sugar. He had camera and nothing else But, my dear, she was… Oh, she was just fine. Because he held her heart the way She loved him Softly and quietly in the dark And under the sheets A kiss on the nose… They weren’t interested In breaking, only making. Only making. They traveled the world and she Whispered to him That they would never Ever Ever Baby Go Back Home. He would smile with those lovely lips And she would laugh again and sway her hips Because they were perfectly Perfectly Happy. Being lost and alone with a map and dollar. Because Because They had these words…. And they always Always Had Each Other. © 2011 BeatricePortinari.Author's Note
