An Icy Cold Love

An Icy Cold Love

A Poem by BrokenLight
"

A love that was never MEANT to be

"

Its been a while since you and I talked

I remember when I first met you

I knew I'd fall hard for you

So I stood away from you.

You struck me as "Dangerous"

And I knew I'd get hurt

If I would get caught up in

Your web of lies.

But you text me asking

A question, a question

I never thought you'd ask me.

And knowing me, I can not deny my feelings

To anyone.

So I said yes

My mistake.

The more we talked

The more I got to know you

And I knew I was right

All along.

I knew we weren't meant to be

The love wasn't love anymore

five years of knowing you.

And I finally realize

Your no better than anyone else.

No better than anyone of my past

At first I thought

Maybe, just maybe it could

Work.

But I knew my gut feeling was right

The love we had

Has become nothing more

Than an Icy, cold rock

In my heart.

Damn, this is good. Sorry for cussing but...you know...honesty... You tell the story of how it all began at a slow, calm pace that sucked me right in. Sharing fears and doubts with us, what you had know all along wouldn't work yet taking the leap anyway. Every line full of expression, of knowledge, taking us on a journey that many understand. But you ended this perfectly, a final blow, the last thought and regret. I completely loved the closing stanza. It just drove this piece home all the more to me. Wonderful!
