The woman

A Chapter by Hannah Bullock
"

As she wakes up, our girl comes face to face with another young woman. but will she bring more questions than answers?

"
She winced as daylight hit her eyes.

The ringing was back, and louder than ever. She grabbed her head in pain, in an attempt to stop the noise. Where hair should have been, there was not. Instead as her hands reached her head, they were greeted with the feeling of cotton. She gasped aloud as she tried to open her eyes once more.White. With her eyes wide open, she was greeted with a sea of white. White furniture, white walls, white floors.

She grabbed the railing on her bed and slowly brought her feet across it, to the side. Her torso and legs soared with sharp pains as she tried to stand herself up. She winced as pain soared through her worse than before, causing her to fall back down. She swung her head back into the pillow and laid there for countless minutes. It felt like hours had passed as she finally tried to stand again. With her hands on the railing, she placed her feet on the floor. Staring at her feet, she pushed off, and grunted in relief as realized that she had stood up.

When she finally looked up, she had come face to face with a young woman.

Startled, she stared at the woman, whose vibrant but empty blue eyes stared right back at her. Her chocolate brown hair flowing from white bandages on her head, tangled and dirty. The woman had a broken nose and was covered head to toe in bruises. Stitches ran up the womans right arm, and across her left cheek. The woman gave a weak smile, making the bruises more apparent as they emerged together.

She looked away from the woman, and started tearing up. Something awful must have happened to this lady, and behind the painful bruises, she had such a kind face. Tears fell from her eyes, they landed on her cheek and rolled down. It was only than that she looked back at the woman, to try and apologise and offer sympathy. As she turned her head, the woman looked upon her sadly, her face had too been drenched with tears.

It was merely moments before realization took over her. She was simply looking at her reflection being cast upon a mirror. There was never another young woman in the room with her as she had thought. She inhaled sharply as it sunk in. She tumbled back, only to fall onto the hospital bed that sat in the room merely two feet away. She grabbed her face and moved her thumb over her left cheek, only to feel bumps from the stitches. More tears swelled in her eyes.

Her heart started to beat quickly once more as she questioned herself in her head. The answer was obvious, but it still scared her. The only reason she didn't recognize herself, was because, she had no recollection of who "she" was. She put her head in her lap and whimpered quietly. She was alone and scared, she thought.

Desperate for answers, she jumped on her feet, only realizing too late that she had made a big mistake. She watched in slow motion as she fell to the ground, the light dimming with every second that passed. Once again. The world was silent.
