July 1992

Although normally a private family, Aiden and Leila White had opened their home to their peers and close relatives in order to accommodate their success. As an experimental researcher for the government in the field of genetics and mutation, Aiden had made a ground breaking discovery that could change the world. Through years of research and careful planning, he had created a serum which enabled him to cure all sickness in the world. The serum was perfect, but dangerous in the wrong hands and Aiden was aware of the consequences such a thing could have. He kept it hidden in the deepest part of the mansion, with the strongest security he could afford. All too aware that this discovery was the start of something big, he didn't know that it would start out with something small and innocent.

---------------------------------

Aiden paced the hallways as screams came from a room down the hall in the maternity ward. Even though he had prepared himself to be in the room with his wife, he just couldn't. It wasn't the visuals of birth that made him fearful, but the thought of his wife in pain which made him woozy. It seemed like ages before the screaming stopped, and although it seemed as though his nightmare was over, it had really only just begun.

An announcement came across the PA, and moments later Aiden was being pushed aside by doctors. Gaining his composure, Aiden watched the doctors spill into the maternity ward which was currently in use by his wife. Instantly, his stomach dropped as he stumbled towards the door. With each step he took though, the longer the hallway looked, and the more aware he became of his rapid heartbeat and shallow breathing.

By the time he had reached the door, a doctor walked out. Without missing a beat, Aiden outstretched his hand in thanks, only to be shrugged off by the doctor, who continued walking away. Panic filled his body, as he ran into his wifes room.

"You must be Mr. White."

Aidens eyes darted around the room trying to find the source of the voice, before he saw a young doctor, holding a baby in his arms.

"Is that..?"

"Indeed, but I must inform you of some unfortunate news, you may want to sit Mr. White, it will be a lot to take in." spoke the man softly, as he rocked the infant in his arms.

Aiden sat on the bed beside his sleeping wife, who stirred.

"It seems.." the mans voice dragged off before he continued, "Your child was born with a very rare, but serious condition Mr. Hastings, it's called Anencephaly, a disease in which a massive amount of the brain, skull and scalp do not form while in the womb. I'm afraid you'd be considering yourself lucky if your child sees 3 o'clock."

Aidens arm suddenly felt restricted, immediately he looked over at his wife, tears filled her blue eyes, as she squeezed harder.

Tears rolled down the couples faces as they came to terms with the news. Their world was crashing, and neither of them could stop it. Their first born child was dying, with anything from minutes to days left to live. Aiden dropped to his knees and ran his hands through his hair. It was then that he had made his decision. He couldn't let his child suffer and not do anything to try and help. He was sure it would work, it HAD to work.

Aiden ran out of the silent hospital, only to return half hour later to see his wife holding a pink blanket. Tears filled his eyes as he approached the bed. It was time.

Without hesitation Aiden struck a syringe into his daughters neck. Screams pierced his ears, and Aiden got to his knees and prayed. The serum he had just injected into his daughter was only a prototype. Untested, and unpredictable.

Leila cried aloud as she held her squirming and screaming daughter, still shocked and frozen in disbelief with her husbands actions. Anger filled her with every scream, but she was helpless, and she knew it.

Seconds turned into minutes and the screaming still carried on, getting worse with time, before the room was once again filled with silence. Through blurred eyes, Leila looked down at her daughter. To her utter shock, vibrant blue eyes met her own.

A smile played on her lips, as she looked at her Daughter, and kissed her forehead. It was the moment when her lips made contact with skin that she realized the blue eyed beauty infront of her had a full head. Where there was once a hole, was now a completely round head, with little brown tuffs of hair growing on the very top.

Leila shook her praying husband, and kissed him softly.

"Let''s go home. Can you hold Delilah while I get changed?" spoke Leila softly, playing with her daughters tuff of brown hair before passing her to Aiden.

"Delilah? When did we decide on that?"

"We didn't" Leila chuckled as she came out from behind the curtain, and grabbed Aidens hand, "Now let's go."
