Fall of A Kingdom

Fall of A Kingdom

A Poem by Brody Jack Jennings
"

The tale of a kingdom that is invaded and how the leader escapes with his citizens.

"

The war had begun, the flag on the mast

The enemy ships pointed at our Hellvast.

We ready our shields, our arrows and swords

The cannons are pointed the armies in hordes.

Their leader prep speech, our leader his own

Our cries fill the land, horns will be blown.

The sound goes off loud, we run to our death

But we will fight on: with every last breath.

Our lord Demotetise, son of Fer'home

Who set out to conquer the empire Rome.

He stands tall and proud, "Let my horn blow.

You, cavalry there, you are all set to go."

They obey his order, they ride to success

Their armies fall short, they go in distress.

The fight is not over, it has just begun

They have many men, and may never be done.

They recover at ships, us in our castle

Drinking out sorrows we forgot the hassle.

As we drink it out, they sink it all in

Maybe the scars will move them to win.

We dream of wars then rise from our slumber

We must not give up, we have to encumber.

They drum on our gates which have been barred

They gain immortal, though they are scarred.

Our lord still stands strong, over their men

And looks as he laughs, and opens the pen.

The elephants rage, their armies in clutters

The mass damage dealt, their lord shudders.

We cry out, we smile, our lord only watches

Their armies rise up and turn up the notches.

We stop and we fire, they only keep going

We look in Demotetise's eyes and see knowing.

They drum on door once again with a clatter

Our men are in fear, they hurry and scatter.

The enemies fight harder as they get hit more

I'm curious what our lord knows is in store.

As I reach Demotetise we run for some cover

As we run to the castle I turn to my brother:

"Follow me now, you'll be safe in here!"

Nodding he follows, the ending is near.

As we look out the window they reach the poor

The rich tier is clear, but this I'm not sure

Their cavalry skip fights and ride up to here

They come to our faces, showing no fear.

We, just us ten, protect our lord Demotetise

And take out their twenty, slashing at knees.

We drop down to five, circle around our lord

Their armies have reached as I pull my sword.

They come at us fast, we had taken so many

Demotetise talks, "We lost it all, Geheny."

My brother and I grab our lord and run fast

No destination, they hunt us: the last.

We make for the gates, not one enemy guard

As we run, Demotetise repeats a famous bard.

A yell from my brother, he falls to an arrow

Life fleeting fast, it makes like a sparrow.

I send my lord on our last boat and close it

And as I turn, it sails, and I submit.

The arrows, so many block the sun, pierce me

My last view is Demotetise, floating to sea.

He rode in the nest, and watched many burn

He watched as his friend, Geheny, took turn.

The woman, the children, and elders must ride

With the lord Demotetise right at their side.

They sail to Oblivion, gates to some hell

He wanted to speak, his words were "farewell.

My people, my love, and my friend most of all

May Zeus and his gods let you walk his hall."

As he pray to the gods, the most heard in awe

And then to their rooms, each would withdraw.

Demotetise stood in sorrow for his race

He couldn't even bear to look at his face.

He closes his eyes but just sees Geheny

"How could this happen? We had were so many!"

He hastes through the ship, searching for he

Who looks to the future, in which he can see.

"What will become of us? What is our fate?"

"I see a future, in which the dead await."

The lord Demotetise had come through the door

"I shall not put subjects to death anymore."

He went to the wheel and took it in charge

The captain, who towered, hung over him large

"What are you doing? You head to Maelstrom!"

"Yes, sir, I know! Now shall we succumb?"

The captain could stop him but he said it not

"Sailors rise sails! We shall not be caught!"

They headed for certain to untimely death

"Hold on everybody! For luck take a breath!"

They sail to the whirl but turned right away

One more servant and the boat would give way.

Circling the Maelstrom and came out the end

As soon as he turned he looked round the bend

Two enemy ships which they could not see

Fell into the Maelstrom, and lost to the sea.

They sailed for so long, the hunger came soon

"Don't worry my people, just one full moon!"

They staggered and sway, elders fell sleeping

Children stay close, the mothers are weeping.

This is all his fault, Demotetise the Knowing

He saw war come in, and saw success going.

Geheny still haunts, yet his loyalty stood

He lay on the railing and thought of the good

"Why shouldn't I jump? I failed as marquis!

Why shouldn't I jump? Into Poseidon's sea!"

He felt that he couldn't, Geheny was right:

A son of Fer'home, a son who can fight.

A mob rule would shatter, an anarchy surely!

They need to sail West to city-state Burly.

There lies his brother, the third of Fer'home

He is currently the Emperor of Rome.

He knows he will welcome his brother so late

But this long needed joy, will need to wait.
