Thanking You

Thanking You

A Poem by Brittany Bostic

Thanking You
From the touches that you left me
to all of the ones I wish I could feel now.
From the memories I have of you
to all of the ones I wish we could have made.

I'm thankful dear love,
I'm thankful for what we had
even if it wasn't enough
because no amount of time with you could be enough.
And then it was shortened again…

From our first date at the dance
to how you shook my fathers hand.
From my white wedding gown
to the new house.

From the call we got only six months in
to the kisses before goodbye.
From picking out the names over email
to watching them grow alone.

I'm thankful that at least I have them.
A small piece that you got to leave behind for me.
Two pieces that will forever wish they knew you
but don't worry, husband,
for I will make them know everything as I do about you.

From the men at my front door step
to the American flag I was handed.
From your tee shirt I sleep in
to the tags I will give our boys.

From the soldier I know you were
to the father you almost got to be.
From every kiss
to every word.

Thank you dear husband,
thank you for it all.

Very credible. You can feel that time has passed and finally she can write down these words because there is hurt but also gratitude of what has been. Well done Brittany!

Thank you for your review
this is so sad....beautiful, but sad....war is so cruel....a lifetime of memories shot down in an instant....

and no one left to touch with a word, a hand or a kiss...just an empty chair at the supper table...a tear, and memories.

thank you, it is sad but you're right sometimes…a lot of times…sad things are true.

To write is to live and feel passion seething through your veins that somehow shows up in words on paper. I love words and the strange way that they use themselves to portray everything we have in.. more..
