They were spending the afternoon talking about the demographic in Helena, Montana. "It's unbelievable, the ignorance here." He says. "Everyone is a geriatric, a Bible-thumper, or both." He tells her he's working on a science-fiction novel, that he's "hard-core" into Scientology. He's even practicing Dianetics. She asks if he knows that L. Ron Hubbard grew up in the same town they reside in now. He gives her a puzzled look and asks, "Who?"

This story made me laugh. Then cry. Because there's nothing worse than thinking you've found someone who you can have an intelligent conversation with -- no matter if you agree with the subject or not -- then you find out you know more about their passions and beliefs than they do.
