One Last Time In The Name Of RegretA Poem by BrittanyJuly 2, 2009
Autumn sky wept on us as we looked up bewildered to the wetness on our faces we were only peeling back the layers of clouds
With delicate fingers our findings made our nostrils flinch and our eyes teared remorseful to an understanding of something beyond our power
The over-grown lawn scratched at our thighs and our pupils simulated with the day's growing shadows
September heaved us inside into the muggy box we made our own we knew nothing about each other except all we needed to know
And in the swells of our bodies we found comfort from the threatening skies our shoulders shiny and contorted like freshly scrubbed potatoes
Gauguin claimed a spot on our bed-side wall we indulge underneath the Tahitian babes as they watch on in sadness and understanding while gathering papayas bare-breasted by a river shore
I laughed with your hand on my side
You grinned with a tickling mouth
Under the covers of a hand-me-down blanket we made a shelter from foes and fiends- thirsting for our energy we shook the bed to scare them away but they peeked in at us with regretful faces
We turned our naked backs to them not realizing they were the answer to why
we had to end © 2010 BrittanyReviews
