Terrible Truth

Terrible Truth

A Poem by Broken-yet-Strong
"

This is a new one i wrote in my free time. Let me know what you think!

"

"There's truth behind the eyes."

It's what you used to say to me,

That the eyes are windows to the soul.

So why can I no longer see into yours?

Why does your soul seem so distant?

Have you dug that deep within yourself,

Fleeing from the horrors you've seen?

Are you escaping to a paradise,

Far from the tears and pain?

"There's truth behind the eyes."

That’s what you once told those around you.

But is what I see really the truth?

Have you truly hidden away your smile,

And buried away your laughing eyes?

Because the joy I saw once before,

Has faded into a blank expression.

"There's truth behind the eyes."

That’s what I now tell others.

But honestly I hope that what I see is not the truth.

Your radiant smile has vanished.

The spark in your eyes has been extinguished.

Your thriving laugh has faded away.

The life in you before has suddenly dissolved.

But why did this happen?

Why did the brother I love returned so shell shocked?

Or has he even returned at all?

"There's truth behind the eyes."

I wish you would tell me that again.

But you haven't yet said a single word.

You sit there silent, emotionless.

Where have you retreated to?

Will you ever come back?

Your once joyful eyes now only stare hopelessly at nothing.

Where did my big brother disappear to?

And why have YOU returned in his place?
