Untitled 6

A Poem by Brittany Kolka

You took away

my childhood

making it all into a game

pretending

it was something everyone did

you stole

my ability to trust

forcing

a child to do unspeakable things

to this day

you still have the control

over me

over my family

and I hate you for it

I'm terrified to drive

through town

afraid to see you

terrified of coming

face to face

even hearing your name

is enough to cause

my heart to race

my lungs to close

my vision to fade

I wish I could get away from you

from your memory
