Me to a friendA Poem by TheCreativeNerdWith Langston Hughes quotesLet me tell you, my friend, You’ve got to stand up to society Step out of the shadows And become colorful as the Northern lights. Don’t let people bring you down Because “Life...ain’t been no crystal stair.” It’s a jagged mountain, It crumbles, And scars, It’s tall, And soft, And rocky. Keep climbing it, don't look down. If you fall, someone will help you. If someone else falls, lend them a hand. This is life, And the society is against it. Look up, there is a long way to go. “To build a ‘home of the free’” To ‘grow deep like the rivers,” To dig up the 'deferred dreams' And lift up the heavy load. Turn that ‘I can’t’ to ‘I will,’ Then ‘I am doing it,’ Then ‘I’ve achieved it.’ Listen to people's complaints, And don’t react badly, Because society Will put you down And take away your color Then you will fall, Fall in the dried up river of dreams. Once a dream is achieved, my friend It will add a gallon of water To the river below. That river is your life Make it flow with accomplishments; With your sweat...blood...faith and pain. Let your sweat be the salt That helps carry you when you fall. Let the blood and faith Give life to the river. And your pain be The rocks at the bottom of it, So they won’t weigh you down anymore. Let your soul mature deep like that river. Once that river is flowing With your once completed dreams You will reach the top of the mountain To the homeland of the free, The free? The free of what you ask, Of failure. And up at on top of the mountain, Will be a house as big as your heart. And you will be the most dazzling one of your life. That is all I have to tell you my friend. © 2017 TheCreativeNerdAuthor's Note
