The Deed is DoneA Story by BritneyAbrahamsThe beginning of a novel??Big Ben loomed over the city striking the hour. The dongs echoed the air, ringing in the man’s ears. He glanced up at the clock. 6pm. The man looked across the intersection where he was standing and spotted a woman half hidden between two glass buildings. She was tall and slim with brown hair pulled tightly back in a bun. Her full red lips formed a scowl on her pale face. She was beautiful, no doubt, not that that mattered. Her round green eyes searched the crowd. Eventually she met the eyes of the man. After a single nod, she reached into her pocket and pulled out a pair of navy shades. The man waited patiently till traffic permitted before making his way over to the woman. “You have it,” he said. It wasn’t a question, and the woman’s frown deepened at his tone. She reached into her pocket, pulling out a simple, crease-less white envelope. Without a word, she handed it over to the man who immediately slipped it into the breast pocket of his trench coat. A few seconds of silence passed between them, giving the man time to study the woman. She seemed anxious, her index finger quickly tapping her side in an odd rhythm. He eyed her sharp cheekbones, the roundness of her lips, and her sunglasses that were too large to sit perfectly on the thin bridge of her nose. The man reached swiftly into his inside coat pocket, retrieved a handgun, and pointed it at the woman. He pulled the trigger. The end. © 2016 BritneyAbrahams |
