RhinocerosA Poem by BritanniaA point in time.
At first I touched you with hands as gentle as bee's breath,
but your rough hide caused callouses to form on my soft palms,
forcing me to make my point with my finger nail,
jabbing and poking at your thick skin.
You did not flinch,
but stayed pressed against the sheetrock,
looking right through me
with a dim prehistoric eye, seemingly too small for a body so huge.
.
Your fringed ears were swiveled towards the exit.
Right then I knew how to disembowel you,
(slip my fingers just here, between these two leathery plates,)
but I did not want the blood on may hands.
We stayed this way for what seemed
an eternity,
until with a snort of stale breath,
you bolted,
straight for the door (trampling my foot in the process.)
After your sweat had evaporated from the room,
I began to polish (with a cloth and small circular movements),
the wood floor where you and I had stood for so long,
removing the varnish until the planks gleamed.
