I Know Better

I Know Better

A Poem by Skai Rain
"

Welcome to my world. It's all fairy tales and unicorns, I swear.

"

I Know Better

 I thought I knew better,

Than to dare let you in.

In a world where love never lasts forever,

There is nothing I can do to win.

I don't know why I thought that you were different,

But for you I really tried my very best.

I wish I put between us that barrier of distance,

'Cause now I know you're just like all the rest.

So I will build the biggest wall I can to keep us apart,

Because I want nothing more than to keep you out.

And I will lock cold, hard bars on my heart,

'Cause the fact that anyone can care I seriously doubt.

Don't mistake me, I am glad you are joyful,

Happy that you find pleasure in my pain.

But I thank you and keep my glass half full,

Because nobody is ever getting through that wall again.

I will survive this life by any means necessary,

And so the best way to conquer is to divide.

I will stand on my own and take my victory,

Because now I know better than to let you on my side.

Author's Note

Skai Rain
I felt like spewing more feelings. Have more feelings. Actually, fun fact, the main character of book I am writing on here, (which I will probably re-write completely at some point) goes through this mindset a lot. This is because I have to have something BIG I can relate to when I am writing my characters in order to put my emotion into them. That being said, this is the biggest thing (and probably the only thing) I have in common with Sebastion from The Black Arrow.

This one is an anthem of sorts for love and its painful loss. Interesting line this..."Happy that you find pleasure in my pain" its like Schadenfreude by BOTH the persona's former lover and the persona. Quite touching. I definitely enjoyed.

Thank you very much! It is not actually about a lover, though xD

Thank you, ma 'dame.
Its a song of an open wound. It will take time to heal. But for now you need to deal with pain. A poignant write.

great piece, one feels the emotion through each line read. the positive message in the end is lovely and much needed! poetry is a release and expression and ultimately a way to draw a conclusion of the situation, some poetry has and end as the beginning, not this, this is beautiful and even better at the end

human interaction is such a tricky thing isnt it, our emotions dictating how we go forth after a trauma. you bared your soul here and i think that is commendable.

Strong feelings, nice poem because once in a while we all feel like that.

Thank you! I am glad you enjoyed it.
Well written and planned out...emotional and powerful, it is hard to let love in and when we do such trust is given...sigh, enjoyed hon xo

It actually wasn't very planned out. I felt emotional at the moment and just wanted to rant so I did.. read more
