The Wait of Forever

The Wait of Forever

A Poem by Britaini Gross

She edits your wishes and invades your dreams,

and she’s much darker than she seems.

She plays ignorance but she is very smart,

She’ll steal your soul and rip it apart.

If you listen closely you’ll hear her song,

but be careful or she’ll pull you along.

Love is a goddess full of tricks and greed,

She makes you think that it’s her you need.

She’ll teach you to fly so she can watch you fall,

and when you do, she’ll do nothing at all.

She’ll leave the pieces broken on the floor,

and you’re not enough, she’ll need more.

She’ll infect everyone, a global epidemic,

She’ll make you think you’re schizophrenic.

She wears a mask, so don’t be fooled,

the fire she burns will be cooled.

The fire she gives turns to ice when you find,

all she wants is to destroy your heart and blow your mind.

She has no target and everyone is a subject,

no one has the pleasure of being  a reject.

I met her once and she was my friend,

Until she gave me something I couldn’t mend.

So now I wait and desire her return,

so maybe once, my heart may burn.
