Chapter 27

Chapter 27

A Chapter by Brina

Jace’s POV

I was awakened by Mike shaking me, nearly pushing me off my bed, and I was have a great dream too, involving lots of sexy teenage girls. Ugh, sometimes I really, really don’t like Mike.

“Well that,” Mike said, “is rude, and you are perverted.”

I laughed softly, “Is that all you came here to say, or is there something of actual importance you would like to tell me, and oh let’s start with, why the hell did you f*****g wake me up?” I was pissed, as I always am just after waking up.

“We, being everyone excluding Felipe, Iven, and Liz, are going to kill Duane’s brother, and I thought that you might want to tag along.”

What?!?! “You know where his damn brother is, and who is he?” I asked remembering the massacres, and suffering from the days before my dad banished the Werewolf king.

Mike nodded, “And yes your subconscious is correct in the guessing of who his brother is.”

“Well it seems Liz’s life is a complete irony,” I said finally figuring out who the man was, “I guess the f*****g saying ‘the past comes back to haunt you’ is way too true.”

“Yes but you haven’t heard the worst part yet,” Mike said which made me grow weary, “they have her friends, and I’m afraid that note was a threat towards them, and in the end will be Liz’s downfall,”

Damn Liz and her empathy, “Let me guess one of them is Clair,” I said remembering the fragile looking girl Liz protected on the day I met her.

“Yes, and I believe the other is Andy, and perhaps Danie and Mary too, but I’m almost positive Andy will be one, and it seems he was in love with Liz, whether she knew it or not, I’m not positive even with looking into her mind, but whomever they took, we need to act quickly.”

“Let’s go then, though having Felipe will make it easier,” I said almost unwilling to say it out loud.

“Yes I agree, but Iven is on neutral ground, and I have no clue if or hen he changes his side, so leaving him alone with Liz is dangerous, and bringing him with us puts us in danger. And if we fall into a trap Liz needs protection.”

I nodded, “Grab them I’ll be ready,”

I heard Mike leave, and once he did I locked my door, and I went to the secret compartment in my wall, I pulled out some guns out of the gun safe, and a few other weapons, not knowing what Hell had in store for me, but knowing that it wasn’t pretty.

3hrs. later: (Jace’s POV still)

We were running into the Deep Dark Forest, and it was only the twelve of us, I’m sure Reed thought all would work out fine, but his one track mind would not suffice. I glanced around as we ran, we were all good fighters, chosen by Mike for their gifts, and there thoughts, what a great ‘gift’ he had, while mine was just cruel.

“We’re here,” I heard Mike say, “I can sense no minds, so Duane must be here, but if Tyler is, that means they must know we’re here, so it may be a trick, all I can feel right now is Duane’s mind no others.”

“That’s bad,” Kurt said, “I bet that he stayed behind to ‘hold us off’ or something stupid like that,”

We all stood in the woods, right in front of a cave of sorts, “Well they can’t have gone far with humans,” I said stating the obvious.

“True, and Duane just exited my mind, either someone with that power is here or no one is at all,”

“Ralf, Gered, Hark, go in and tell me who’s is there, if something comes at you Mike will know, go.” Reed said.

Three of the guys in our group nodded, and took off.

About five minutes later they returned, “Nothing there except for this,” Hark said, and handed Mike, a safe, with a number code. It read:

This is for Liz,

This can only be opened by you, and I’m sure you’ll know the answer.

Fourteen years was nothing to bear,

Lived with a father, who pretended to care,

Ran home one night on Hallows’ Eve,

Dad was gone, left you with Mom and Steve,

And then when you,

Were not but fifteen,

A strange man entered your empty dreams,

How many times did this man enter your dreams?

Before you turned the age of sixteen,

And he was no more, and disappeared?

We all turned to Mike, positive he knew the answer, but he simply shook his head, “I don’t know, never have I seen a strange man in her dreams.”

“But that means,” I said, “that this mystery man, was-”

“Duane, damn!” Mike ended, and we all stood shocked at this news.
