No

No means no.

He told me he loved me

And I said No.

He told me it would be worth it

And I said No.

He told me that I owed him

And I said No.

He told me to have another drink

To loosen up

To just go with his flow

And I still said No.

He looked me in the eye

Asked me again

And I tried not to cry

When I replied No.

 

But in that moment

He didn’t hear that

My cries were laughs

My tears were smiles

My loss was his gain

My No meant Yes

 

And now I’m in a shoebox

And everyone is yelling

They are screaming

That I was drinking

That it was my fault

That my dress was too short

That the scene was too dark

And my mother screamed No

 

But in that moment

They didn’t hear  that

Our cries were laughs

Our tears were smiles

Our loss was their gain

My No meant Yes

 

So now I’m the bad guy

And he’s the victim

Life ruined forever by my mistakes

All I can do is hope that next time

 

In that moment

He will hear that

The cries are screams

The tears are blood

The loss is irreplaceable

The No meant No.
