Reversed Persecution

Reversed Persecution

A Poem by Brielle Cartny

Beat the broken

Scorn the words spoken

Misunderstand our words

Ostracize us and cause us sweet hurts

Sew our mouths closed

Kick us to the road

Your opinions must be so divine, worth so much

Oh it is fine, you say, believe in God, but keep it hushed

I can’t speak, I’m so sick, I’m torn

Take the sin, eat it, it’s good for you

Devour our lies or we can persecute, it’s rules

Keep your truth, it’s lethal and we can’t listen

Your religion is all about hate, all you damn Christians

Do you not hear, It is love and forgiveness

--No, it’s intolerance, unlawfulness

Fools, listen, the bible speaks nothing of political correctness

Who gave you these ideas?  Who wrecked us?

You quote my law at me without reading

Yet you say hatred is all I’m breeding

I haven’t the time to make this up

You misunderstand the one who provides the cup

Is action possible when just using his name shows bravery

Fine, do it again,Bring the yoke of slavery

I’m ready for the first hit

Come on brothers, do it again, throw me in the pit

Try to change my mind, make me bow to the man

Pull the stitch tighter so my truth won’t scare you again

Thank God I’m not in love with this life

I’m scared of one presence in this chamber and it ain't the knife

Defend drugs, money, and confusion

But treat God’s defenders as the intrusion

Call our message a hate crime, poison, your cause of hurts

I swear you got the wrong church

This is not what he intended

Why are we so apprehended?

In the cells our tags read “The Enemy”

And our brothers mauled in foreign countries, calamity.

You only allow me to speak for a moment

removing the strings and speaking something about atonement

Sorry I do not understand when you rewrite the bible

I’m smarter than that, I’m called a disciple

Listen now, the trumpets in the distance, it’s almost too late

Open up your hands, take the gift, repent, relate

He has the answers, our minds aren’t too great

We want sensibility

Unlike you we are no longer after equality

Why must we be sewn so tight

For our God we want peace, but we will fight

Everything good is usually shielded

But listen to us, embrace, don’t yield it

The blind lead the blind, and the mute speak for you

He is the only reason we live, we are new

So stop the drumming and cut the prepared noose, We can’t stay down

The truth will be told when we are truly off the ground

I am heavily influenced by music all around me. There is hardly ever a piece I write that is not composed with a song that has been stuck in my head. Recently my favourites have been Haste the Day, .. more..
