Strike Down the Inner Narcissist

Strike Down the Inner Narcissist

A Story by Brielle Cartny
"

If you can take this to heart before it happens, i could save a life.

"
Ever noticed how a candle can drown in it's own wax?  It is exactly what
we do to ourselves.  We get so caught up in life struggles that we pull
ourselves down.  We sulk and make our tremendous light go out.  We
just focus on our bad feelings that make us melt away.  That is what i want to
do all the time.  College is hard.  My car won't start.  Work is tiring.  We need to stop thinking
about ourselves.  Let us burst out and give our luminescence to others.  Don't drown
like i did.  LIVE!

I am struggling right now in my personal life and I can feel myself slipping into this habit. I am becoming lost in the overwhelming rejection and negativity, but I need to be mindful to pull myself free. And I need to remind myself that there are still so many paths I can choose from. Thanks for the reminder.

This reminds myself as well. You aren't alone
I love this! The whole candle drowning in its own wax thing is my favorite - I looked at that and I was all like, "Wow. That is so true. I need to go light a candle now!!!"
My mom told me to stop playing with matches. Oh well :P
I like how you just go full force with this and kind've get up in our faces before ending on a happy note, although I'm not sure if I really want to 'burst out'. That sounds messy. And disgusting.
There's only one thing that I didn't agree with and that's your title...In the body of the piece you seem to be talking more about pessimism than anything else, and a narcissist is someone who's convinced that the world revolves around them. I don't quite see how those two match up....But anyway...
Amazing job!!!! Three thumbs up!!! :D :D :D
Oh wait...I only have two...
TWO THUMBS UP!!!!!
(Psssst...I still love the title even if I don't think it matches with the piece)

Aww thank you!! Well the both titles could work, but narcissism and pessimism were both on my mind .. read more
The last line had some snark to it that made me smile. "Ever notice how a candle can drown in its own wax? It is exactly what we do to ourselves". This could be a wake up call!

A wake up call for me as well.
Powerful message, within these words, I like that, optimism in your ending,
We all have been through in life like this, a several times, but the art is to balance, breathe, and focus.

About
I am heavily influenced by music all around me. There is hardly ever a piece I write that is not composed with a song that has been stuck in my head. Recently my favourites have been Haste the Day, .. more..
