A Friend

A Friend

A Story by Brid

What can I say to a friend whom I no longer know?  Call back old memories of our time together, saying, "Remember when...?" If they mattered, the question is pointless.  If she has forgotten, she is no friend of mine.
What can I say when I meet her eyes, and can tell that she pretends not to recognize me?  To impose myself would make me a burden, accomplishing nothing.  I wish her the best in her new life.  After all, not everyone is happy enough to replace old memories with new.
Perhaps I want this friend I no longer know to remain sacred in memory, because she will never again be the little girl I understood.

Hello. I am only in high school, but I love writing and just want to improve. I'm considering a career in something writing-related, maybe an editor? I try to be realistic, though, so I'm not pinni.. more..
