New Reapers: New Era

New Reapers: New Era

A Poem by Brian Angeles
"

A short summary in a poetic version for my book New Reapers: Genesis. Enjoy.

"
When you feel the cold hand of death and the end drawing near, the reapers shall come and put an end to your fear. Created from darkness and from light, to preserve the balance and its might. Not to kill, nor to slay, but to keep the creatures of the night at bay. Fight to live and live to fight, all for the purpose of what was right. Creatures had turned the world into hell, while all attempts to resist immediately fell. Humans served corrupted gods of hate, believing this was their eternal fate. Until their saviors rained from the forgotten light, eliminating the evil from its might. Preserving the balance of evil and good, Never to allow any to intrude. The reapers fight as an act of valor, determined never to fall towards their final hour. Though fighting in the shadows never taking glory, it’s time to commence the reapers story.

I like this very much.. what we percive as bad is not alwys so.. and even death can sometimes be kind.. I like the way you used the concept of balance between good and evil.. not a new concept to me.. well written.. it held me long enough to want to read it again..

Hmmm... I find the theme quite refreshing and beautifully different from the poems I have read so far. I enjoyed the rhyme scheme and the fluidity of thoughts. Interesting write. :)

Thank you :)
Interesting write... I like the idea; true darkness can only be seen when we know what it is like in the light. I think that reapers get a bad rap sometimes, as they are only doing a job; a cog in the machine, so to speak, if you believe in that sort of thing. I think the Greeks had it best in terms of the afterlife...but I'm biased, as I've done a lot of course study in that area. Nicely done.

I'm glad you are open and understand my opinion on my fictional novel
I love reading poems written for novels, I do this myself as exploratory tools, both as a way to probe the story deeper in thought as well as a practice of writing in a different (non-novel) style. Anyway, well done as an intro to your story!

Romanticizing death once more.. Reapers doing what they do only because they're quelling the monster to keep it stable.. I like it.

You're welcome~
And thanks ^-^
I like this, I've written several pieces about "reapers" and find it an interesting thing to write about. There was only one small hic up that I noticed with this piece: "Humans tried so hard to rebel,
But their hopes were immediately quelled." It doesn't rhyme as well as the rest of it, but it is a goo write nonetheless. Keep it up and I hope to see more work.

A lot of people seem to think death is something mystical or magical. I'm of the very strong opinion that when you start to die, your brain goes through mal hallucinations and - well, if you take the time to write it down, it's likely a bigger trip than LSD will ever get you.

So - all this talk of a bright light, floating, out of body experiences, seeing your relatives long past, etc. I think they are caused just from the brain being starved of blood and oxygen.

Death to me is the cessation of life. I think Spock worded it best,
"On my planet, to rest is to rest … To me, it is quite illogical to run up and down on green grass, using energy instead of saving it."

Thus I believe it is quite illogical to build death into anything more than the termination of life. It happens, and if you feel tired from life now, you'll get a good rest then. :)
