cognition

these thoughts 

        trapped in the labyrinth

of neurons and interneurons

firing down the synapses

of dead end streets

 

these words

        catch in my throat

like desperate screams

silent and burning

a voice struggling for release

 

these expressions

        locked up tight

in the tips of my fingers

paralytic tools of rebellion

wrestling for freedom

 

these poems

        drown in the blood

coursing through my veins

only to spew onto the paper

like still born babies
