A Lifelong Curiosity

A Lifelong Curiosity

A Poem by Brian Yule
"

The lifespan of a naked ape.

"
I woke in the dawn
I picked the leaves
I plucked the fruit
I hunted the beasts
I tamed the flames
I daubed the wall
I walked the earth
I sowed the land
I harvested the grain
I reaped the bounty
I gathered for gods
I marked the stick
I worked the clay
I charted the stars
I dug the deep
I shaped the ore
I crossed the desert
I followed the tides
I brought wonders from afar
I struck the bargain
I conquered the weak
I spread the word
I polished the glass
I glimpsed the depths
I saw the pattern
I tested the limits
I measured the hours
I passed the days
I played the games
I wrote the rules
I cured the sick
I stretched for truth
I tasted doubt
I tasted you
I made new life
I touched the heavens
I made numbers dream
I left my trace
I laid me down
I closed my eyes
I fed the earth
I was no more
