Fragments Found

Fragments found
A sliver of cracked pottery
Glaze-faded and weathered
To shape a world from

Fragments found
A few baked-earth-stamped words
Worn down to whispers
Shy of a sentence

Fragments found
A headless list
Notched tally marks scratched
By forgotten accountants.

Fragments found
Midst centuries-cold hearth ash
Pressure-hardened husks and fossilized s***s
To tell the tale of meager fare and fireside banquets
Bread broken and shared
Famine and feast.

Fragments found
Scuffed toys, dated board games
Yellowing notebooks, leather-bound school reports

Fragments found
Of internet breakups
The 0s and 1s of each hammered retort

Fragments found
Of the previous evening
Pieced crudely together through the morning fug

Fragments found
Of the life we’re born leaving
But the shredded flashbacks of a fast-fading drug
