Embracing the FutureA Poem by BrianLoveA poem about a man who finds a woman who sees beauty in him while he's feeling his ugliest. The perfect couples parade through the square Their pretty faces shimmering with happiness They needn’t worry about their future, for their future is right beside them Their future whispers into their ears of the glorious things that they will do together As they walk, hand in hand, they pass by a lonely man slumped in the street corner They pass him by, too wrapped up in their own satisfaction to care The gray man slouches there, silently sulking Suddenly, the man solemnly speaks “I can find no one, for my face is filled with scars, and my heart filled with rejection.” “The couples pass by day after day reminding me of my own sufferable solitude, and I ask, “Where is my future? Why is my right hand empty? It must be my frightening figure, or my sorrowful scars. Maybe I am devoid of Beauty.” To his surprise, the gentle voice of a woman called, and was right beside him. She whispered soothingly, “Why are you cast down? I’d like to see your face.” The man muttered, “Nobody wants to see my face, for it is not beautiful like the others.” She reiterated, “Let me behold your visage, I long for something unique.” The man slowly looked up into her eyes, They were a flowing stream of blue in which he saw no end She reached out with a delicate touch She felt the scars on his face and smiled knowingly “I see no scars, but marks of beauty. The others have no idea of Beauty.” The man wept so that the gutters in which he sat overflowed. He stood up, reached out his arms, and finally embraced his Future.
