The Blacker The Berry

The Blacker The Berry

A Poem by Bria Si'mone

The blacker the berry the deeper the wound
In a world where they still call our president a coon.
Where the Jews get reparations and come here to be free
Meanwhile getting shot down like dogs are people like me
Oh say, can you see?
N****s being shot down. With a bullet in their back and their face on the ground
Our history erases our past and that fact that we once wore crowns. There was us before anyone else was around.
Our faces are a reminder of their inadequacy.
Gentrification is a weird form of flattery.
And they've subdued us into complacency. Y'all energizer bunnies better go find your batteries. Wake up and keep going and going and going till this fight is done.
Cuz if not, they'll just keep executing us one by one.
Black holocaust for what cause? At what cost? We've all lost and no one seems to care.

You better shape up and wake up before you look in a book and we are no longer there.
