The End of The Rainbow

The End of The Rainbow

A Story by Brett Pritchard
"

They wrapped it up in nice colors not seeking to hurt, anger or offend, but nobody every dared to open it not realizing it to in fact herald the end.

"

They wrapped it up in pretty rainbow colored paper to make it more appealing to the eyes of those who couldn’t even see to begin with and they called it so many things; tolerance, acceptance, kindness, so many well worn words at this point all of them misplaced and without their true meaning.

Compliance. The aim is simple, eliminate individuality and free thought doing so under the ingenious guise of appearing to encourage and endorse those very ideas. While in reality conformity reigns, the consequence of which is the atrophy of the human strength to resist, to question, to enquire and to challenge. Resistance of any kind being labeled as ‘toxic’ when in reality it’s disruptive sure enough but disruptive only in the sense that it seeks to challenge the obvious pretty agenda that surrounds us all.

Seems as if George Orwell wasn’t writing fiction after all when he penned the seminal Nineteen Eighty Four, instead he was broadly speaking predicting the very future in which we live. History is being routinely rewritten now just as it was by the powers that be in that very tome. People are erased from it, smeared away from the past present and future as if they were never even there.

Willingly we allowed our very beings to be digitized, to permit the very concept of being alive to become an almost intangible idea. That’s why now you can be ‘cancelled’ if you dare to act without conformity or compliance. Just as with the ‘thought criminals’ of the aforementioned book, if you dare to espouse ideas or indeed as if we’ve seen, are discovered to have EVER espoused ideas that are ‘off trend' then you are for it. You’ll be removed in an ever lasting way, because we have all of us signed onto a world where it seems physical existence counts for nothing. Our souls as currency.

On the face of it the ideas preached and make no mistake that’s what they are preached, by this modern technocracy might seem wholesome enough. Acceptance and kindness to all, understanding and love to everyone…. It’s a lie. A lie that is collectively undermining everything that is to be human and gradually but certainly in an ever accelerating way, eroding us as a species.

Fundamental concepts are disappearing from our world. What it is to be male, to be female, to be a human being with choices and ideas of your own, that's all being taken away. It is my belief that we’re being stripped back, unmade, disassembled. If a human being is robbed of the ability to define what it is then what does it become?

The word fluid is thrown around a lot now as a means of describing being whatever it is you choose to be. I have a better word to describe where I think we’re heading and that’s malleable. Able to be moulded, changed and shaped and distorted into not whatever we want to be but into whatever those in power tell us to be. Sad part is I think people quite like it. It makes their lives easier somehow with a very strict list of things we can and can’t do, can and can’t say, we saw during the recent pandemic which was at least in part an experiment in mass compliance that people by and large really are willing to go along with just about anything in a chillingly calm fashion.

You see all of this, this thing wrapped in the guise of acceptance and tolerance and love, it’s nothing of the kind. It’s docility, it’s the elimination of aggression from humanity, notice more and more how the very concept of aggression is depicted as a bad thing, as a negative? When in fact it’s a necessary part of what it is to be alive! A pivotal component of man’s evolution. Without aggression, you can’t resist! You can’t fight against forces that act upon and you are defenseless and vulnerable to manipulation of the masses.

It’s absolutely no coincidence at all that those people who dare to speak out, to say something that doesn’t chime with this ‘brave new world’ are abruptly silenced. The most frightening aspect of that for me being that their fellow man, their fellow humans are doing it. Excommunicating those that would dare have a dissenting voice. Acting as unwitting foot soldiers to the world powers that be.

This is not life. The way that the world and it’s culture and ethos is going right now this is not evolution this is not progression. We are regressing as a species, as a race, we are disappearing into a bleak cul de sac of inaction. Mindlessly sleep walking through such a beautiful natural world that we don’t even look at anymore, so glued are we to these little devices in our hands, more of our lives ‘lived’ online in a technological haze of stupefied and transient thrill chasing.

The world is on pause and for the life of me neither I or any of the people like me can find the remote control. It’s out of reach and the people have nodded off in front of the screen.
